or Costus comosus, it seems to be called both.  Also Red Tower Ginger and several other related names.  Tropical.

Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Gainesville, Florida
5/27/2017 – 2:02:54 PM in dappled light
Canon EOS 7D   EF400mm f/5.6L USM
1/400 sec;   f/7.1;   ISO 640
Aperture priority;   Evaluative metering
LR5, PS6, Topaz DeNoise on background, Curves and Brightness selectively on plant, cropped slightly from the top for composition.

I left the top part not as bright as it was but brighter than the rest, because I liked the effect it gave, but it still may be too bright.  The plant was under a tree with light coming through in different directions and not in others.

Please see the larger version.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Really nice sharp and colorful shot. I like the curving stem leading up to the flower.   My only suggestion would be to crop it so the flower is not so dead center

Beautiful inflorescence and flowers. I agree with Skip. A crop from the RHS to the tip of the yellow flower would give some offset to the plant, as well as removing the OOF bright area entirely. The brightness looks fine to me. The only other nit I have is the weird symmetry of the site produced border. In a few words, it just looks awkward. I would prefer a small made border inside the image frame.cool

Well captured and presented, Barbara. The flower itself looks great, and I like the bg as well. I don't mind the centered comp, but I could see cropping a little off the right and bottom.

Beautiful light and colour, Barbara.  I rather like the slightly unusual placement of the flower in the frame - it seems like an attention grabbing pose by a flower that is well worthy of attention !

A beautiful photo of a beautiful flower Barbara. I love the bent line of the stem always pleasant for the eyes in a photo. If you want to decentralize the subject it is better for me cutting the rectangle in the top and left.

That is really cool, Barbara.  For some reason the blossom seems to glow more in the smaller version.  I don't know if you can achieve the same feel in the larger or not, but I think it would be the icing on the cake.

I envy you having that garden handy.  We went to two of the branches of the "national Tropical Botanical Garden" when we were on Kauai in January, and they were awesome.  I did get frustrated because you couldn't get in until the light was well past prime, though a good overcast day is nice for flowers.
