Passerina ciris

I captured this Painted Bunting in Southwest Missouri while visiting my daughter. I don't think I have ever been so excited to capture a species before. Southwest Missouri is the northern edge of their range.

Sweet image.  It is a beautiful bird.  Fortunate with the background being darker behind the bird and outlining the bird with lighter foliage.  Nice.

Just gorgeous, Matt!  I can understand getting excited about this shot.  They are beautiful birds.  I have yet to see one in the wild.  I too like the way the darker part of the background seems to shape around him to make him stand out.

I have nothing original to say, but I agree with what the others have said so far. Great shot!

Beautiful light, Matt, and you really nailed the colors in this beauty.  Excellent detail and a nice head turn really top this off.  Well done.

Very nice, the details in the feathers are remarkable and the colors are great. We do see them in Maine but to capture one as you have ... that is indeed exciting. Great image!

Cool to get such a brightly colored bird on a dark background.   Your lighting was just perfect.  I would have been extremely excited to see something like this.  I really like this image.
