I took this through my window last winter using my Canon Mark III with Canon 100-400mm L lens with 1.4 teleconverter (560mm total), handheld at 1/1000, f8, ISO 1000. Comments and suggestions welcome.

I like the pose and the backside view of the Shrike. The image as presented is quite flat and needs a richer black and white point . Here's a version setting blacks and whites based on tones in the images.

Wow, thanks, Keith. Your version does look much better than what I presented. I am learning so much from you all. Sure glad I found this site.

Hi Shirley
I like the head turn and detail of the Shrike. The shot is just a little on contrast. I agree with Keith.

Shirley, this is good timing to get the head turn and pose with all that HH glass for such a small bird. Agree with Keith's suggestion. Shrikes are fascinating, with a bill like a miniature raptor, and interesting behavior to capture and store their prey. While a vertical framing might be normally be preferred, I like how the perch works well with your horizontal comp.

I like that pose and perch, Shirley. It makes for a very effective simple composition. I agree with Keith, it does need an increase in contrast. Nice job getting this much detail shooting through a window.

Great job with the detail through a window and with the head turn, and with the changes Keith suggest/illustrates this is really, really nice.
