This is my favorite species, second being the Argiope, both common in Jean Lafitte NP, this shot in 2015.  I usually avoid this angle, and while the back is colorful, the working side has nice patterns too, and from a photographic standpoint more forgiving in terms of DOF since the spider lies so close to the web.  Full frame image.

Hi Bill,

Interesting spider--I especially like the tufts on the legs.  I wish tere was a little more detail in the chelicerae which are in heavy shadow.  Color and details are good and the comp with the soft BG is very nice......................Jim

Very nice, Bill.  I notice that you used the 100-400mm lens too.  It does work pretty good at getting close up shots.

This is a fine look at this spider, Bill.  You've got good sharpness on her that really shows off her "leg warmers" as well as the interesting pattern and colors of her abdomen.  The background looks good also.

Nice colors and markings Bill. Great DOF for the spider. Those leg hairs are really cool.
