Dive Bomber
by Dennis Plank
This is the best aerobatics shot I've found going through the images from this week's trip to the Hood Canal for Eagles and Herons. It was taken on Monday, before David Schoen was able to come up. We had a bit more light than on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it was scattered clouds so keeping the exposure correct was difficult. This image was underexposed by nearly a stop in camera, so I had to bring it up in post processing. I was back and forth between Manual exposure and Aperture priority and in this case was using aperture priority and the eagle was against a bright patch of sky.
7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/5000, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to a 9.9 MP 6x7 vertical. Taken at 8:08 am on June 19th (for reference, at our location sunrise was at 5:13 am on the solstice, so it was fairly high by the time this was taken).
Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.
Thanks,

9 commentsThis action shot shows a really nice dve angle. Maybe you could bring up the shadows on the right wind?
