Great pose and excellent detail, John.  The left over feather is a nice touch.

Thanks both.
Some "pundits" are saying one cannot get sharp images at low ISO speeds-so don't be scared to crank it up.
Personally I think this is bad advice. 1000 ISO is  way high for me !!

Nice clean image of this species.  I also try and avoid higher ISOs as I have never had much luck with Photoshops noise reduction. Noise does not appear to be a major issue at this ISO for you.

Hi John
The shot looks clean for a 1000 ISO.  Nice setting and detail.

Nicely done and what looks like overcast sky's.  Well processed at highish iso for this camera.  I like the pose and the composition

Another great pool shot John. I am amazed at the variety of bird species you get to visit your pond. devil

Thanks again guys.I,ve come to the conclusion that theres only one way to get variety at a pool and its quite simple.-- you just have to put the hours in -simple as that. I suppose its like all nature photography- you only get the shots if the stuff is in front of you- so in other words you have to go where the stuff is !!
