Juvenile Tricolor

Here's another TCH, this one from August 2013 in Bayou Sauvage.  I could have done without some of the FG vegetation, but it's the natural environment and I decided not to attempt cloning it.  Shot from the boardwalk - the only option there.  Full frame with a bit of shadow/highlight adjustment and sharpening of bird.

Bill, an excellent detailed shot of the Tricolored Heron. The feather detail is exquisite. I wouldn't worry over much about the blurred vegetation at the bottom—it gives the eye a place to stop if nothing else. You could clone up to the first joint of the reflected leg and remove most of it that way, but you would still have some cloning to do.cool

Nice image Bill. I am not really bothered by the OOF FG. I do however think this would look better as a 2x3 instead of a 4x5. The part I would loose on the crop would all be at the top (basically the moss at the top).

This is a beautiful Tricolor Heron, Bill, and you captured him so well.  I have never seen a juvenile before either, so appreciate the post.

Very attractive heron.  I like the color and it stands out nicely against the water and vegetation.

Bill, I like the detail here, and the background is very nice. I like the focus fading away as you reach the top. I don't love the OOF foreground greenery, but it's not a big deal.

Thanks, guys.  I didn't care for the FG either.  Shirley and Kathy, the juveniles have that nice bronze plumage mixed with the adult colors, and early in their second year they change to the slate blue.  I personally like the more colorful juveniles, as they're more tolerant to close approach and don't get spooked as easily as the adults.

Beautiful plumage, Bill.  I haven't seen all that many of these, but I don't recall ever seeing this much red.  A beautifu image and the touch of oof foreground vegetation isn't really distracting.
