Fox Hop

Last fall I made a brief visit to Yellowstone.  The purpose of the trip was mainly to take care of some personal business, but I brought my gear with me just in case.  On the drive through the park on the way to my place, I was fortunate to come across a hunting fox.  It was busy scouring the fields near the road, and at one point got up on some boulders to hunt from above.  The fox would hop from boulder to boulder, a much better and stealthier way of patrolling the area without any potential prey hearing it.

Max, this is a neat hunting photo. Great timing to catch the fox perfectly between the rocks! I like the light grass behind as well.

Great shot to capture him in mid-airdevil. Every time I have gone somewhere without my gear, I have ended up regretting it.

Outstanding timing as others said, Max.  It also has the option to crop from right to avoid the centered comp, but excellent as is.  As usual very good work.

Very cool capture Max. You have done a great job capturing it mid-air. And love that bushy tail!

Thanks guys.  The setting obviously could be a bit "cleaner," but I was happy capturing the moment.  Bill, you raise an interesting point about the composition.  While I would normally favor the "leave more room in front" comp for a profiled subject like this, in this case I felt the graphic element and symmetry created by the fox in between the two boulders lent itself well to a centered composition.

I hardly feel qualified to make any technical comment at least in the realms of wild
ife photography but at least that doesn't exclude me from saying what I like and I love the timing you achieved with your the fox leaping from one boulder to the other.
