Dinner Time!

Here's a shot from the 4th of July weekend at a local lake. I was able to sneak up in my kayak and watch him(?) fish for about 45 minutes. I have more shots that I will be posting as I process them.

5d2, 100-400L @ 400mm
1/200s @ f/5.6, ISO800
Tripod set up on the floor of the kayak
TK tonal adjustments throughout and selective sharpening to the bird. Cropped to 12.5mp. There was just a small amount of noise from the ISO. These (somewhat) higher ISOs are new territory for me, as I'm usually not shooting something that needs a fast shutter speed, but I feel like I was able to remove it fairly well. I'd love to hear all your thoughts.

A really nice angle from the kayak, Craig.  On my monitor, it looks like you might be able to go a touch brighter.  Other than that a very good image.

The kayak provided an excellent low angle here Craig.  Great action, I think I would crop a bit from the left to move him out of the center some. devil

Wonderful angle from the kayak. It looks like it needs a slight bit of counterclockwise rotation. Even if you do crop a little bit from the left, I would consider cloning some vegetation over the brown area behind the bird.

I really like the point of view here Craig.  It allows me to feel as if I'm right down in the water looking at this heron enjoying its meal.  Yes the kayak is a perfect medium for getting up close as long as you don't scare the birds.  That's what seems to happen to me in my boat.  Superb color and sense of being in this place.

Looks like a good size meal for this guy, Craig.  Nice low angle and detail for HH 1/200 sec.
