A Morning in the Saddle

A few years ago, I spent the night near Saddle Mountain by the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Some nice clouds moved off the rim and the morning sun streamed onto the eastern rim. There was a large fire through the area last summer, so I do not know how it looks now.

A really nice image. The sky is rendered really well and that's not always easy to pull off. A classic landscape from the romantic era.

The contrast between sky and land is striking. The repeating ridges fading away into the distance is depicted really well in this light. Gotta love those clouds too.

Lovely Doug, gorgeous splash of light on the corrugated slopes and a gentle recessive layering of tones as the landscape fades into the backdrop.

Beautiful sky, layers and sense of depth. To my eye, it seems a little bit right side heavy. I might play with cropping a bit off the right and see what happens. That said, it is sweet as presented.

The light in this scene is beautiful! I also like the composition and the unusual view into the canyon. Nicely done! I want to make a trip to the north rim sometime as it has such a different look and feel.

Lovely Doug! The lighting is fantastic spilling through the clouds; I really like the way it catches the ridges.
