Female RW Blackbird

At least I think this is a female Redwinged Blackbird.  I've never seen one around my house and I'm suspecting this is a juvenile.  It showed up today at one of the feeders.  I believe it was with a second female.

Iso 640, 600 mm, F10, 1000th, D 500, tripod, fill flash at -1, sunny and taken around 9 AM, Topaz and TK actions

A beautiful shot, whatever she is, David.  I looked it up, and I couldn't find a juvenile to compare it with, so maybe that is what it is.  However, I found a photo of a bird that I thought looked more like this one, and it was called a Pine Sisken.  For those of you that are better at this than me, please chime in.  I am just using a field guide.  I have never seen either, that I know of, so I am sure not the expert.  Anyway, it is an excellent image, with great detail, and I just love her pose.

The first step in bird ID is to look at the bill. This bird has very sharply pointed bill with straightRed-winged Blackbird

sides and a thick base. That is a good indicator that it is a member of the blackbird family (that includes orioles).

The amount of yellow/orange/red on juvenile Red-winged Blackbirds is quite variable. This looks fine for one to me.

Here are a few I've taken over the years that are close to your bird's plumage.

Nice, David.  Excellent pose and perch.  You got very good image quality.  Rather surprising given how early the light got harsh this morning.  Good work.

Pretty look at this one David. Nice light, good choice with the exposure bias. Love the pose and the look in its eye, not to mention the nice mossy perch. Good work.

Nicely done, David.  Although it looked like a RWBB to me, I was glad to see Rich offering a post, who's awfully good as I.D. guru.  I like your comp and use of fill flash.  Nice work cool
