Stair Falls-Sonora Pass

I have visited this lovely waterfall many times over the years. It is a tributary to Sardine Creek on the east side of Sonora Pass.

I had a little trouble taming the sunlit highlights, especially in the greenery, but I believe this works pretty well.

Nikon D-7100
Nikkor 18-140mm @ 85mm
f-16 @1/13 s, ISO 100
Liberal use of TK's masks and some burn.

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

Nicely crafted comp, Preston. I see why it's a favorite.

That is a really nice little waterfall; that staircase of rocks is fun.  Nice job managing the highlights; overall it gives me a very refreshing feeling.  I really enjoy the pops of green but I have mixed feelings about the greenery at the top right; the mass of it seems a little overpowering next to the delicacy of all the other elements.

I think this one came out really well for you. There is a freshness, an aliveness here due to great light conditions and color scheme. The composition works well, with greens coming in from the sides as filler and the splash in lrc that keeps your eyes in the frame rather than flowing right out. Shutter speed is really good allowing you to see through the water yet retaining it's sense of liquid, almost like veils. And finally the flowers in urc adds interest to the greens. Nice job.

Preston, I'll add the excellent diagonal flow of the fall to the other observations already mentioned......laugh

Preston,

I'm so glad you were able to capture this.  You handled the light wonderfully and I really like the cascading composition. The shutter speed on the water helps bring out texture and detail in the flow.  The surrounding vegetation and flowers just complete a lovely alpine scene.

I will most certainly want to visit this scene again under better conditions. And you know what I mean!  This was truly a little spot of heaven.  Thanks for taking me there.

Nice to see you back, Preston. This is a lovely intimate scene IMO. Your chosen SS works beautifully as it has created some wonderful details in the water and you handled the dappled lighting perfectly. Great work on this one.

I like the balanced and obviously careful composed scene, Preston. Good use of the angled waterfall and the fireweed in the URC. Nice work on the bright areas. Nice to see these new high sierra posts from you.

Very nice, Preston.  The diagonal flow of the water works well in the comp and you handled the contrast well.  I like the warm inviting light.

A very thoughtful presentation, Preston.  I love the diagonal flow of the falls.  My only suggestion would be to crop to just below the little bit of white water at the top.  Amazing detail in the rocks and beautiful work.
