Fire Tanker

There was a wild fire a few miles south of us yesterday afternoon that ended up destroying four dwellings, a business and a couple of barn (No injuries have been reported). They called in this DC-10 Tanker to help control it and it's flight path happened to include turning around pretty much over our house. I couldn't resist grabbing the camera to get some shots of this very large "bird".

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 163 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/2500, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV. Processed in LR & PS CC. A slight crop for composition. Taken at 4:35 pm yesterday.

Comments and critiques are very welcome.

Thanks,

Interesting to me that no one has commented....This is techinically sound and a solid composition. The experience it showcases is worthy of such documentary captures! Good work.

Hi Dennis,

I always associate arial fire fighting with prop planes and helicopters. You nailed the comp and exposure on this jet. Nicely done.................Jim

Dennis, congratulations on the WP here with this fine take of the aerial fire fighting team. For taking the image from the shadowed side the detail is excellent. The small burst of sunlight off the underbelly of the nose area is a real plus too. Amazing to see how well these giant old units maneuver threw some of those remote canyons and hills...... laugh
