Thank you for your comments on my recent postings!

This cascade in the canyon of Deadman's Creek west of Sonora Pass is one of my favorite spots. I have made a few images here over the years, but was never quite satisfied. This year, with the higher than normal water level, I found the conditions I was looking for.

This is a single exposure and is cropped a bit from the top, and right edge.

Nikon D7100
Nikkor 18-140mm @ 90mm
f-22 @ 1/8 s., ISO 100
TK's V4 Masks.

Please see the large version. Thank you!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

Preston, your SS is good for a blend of water detail with a bit of silkiness. As to the comp, if mine I would pan right to favor more outflow in the creek, or alternatively back off to a wider focal length. That rock looks like a great place for fly fishing.enlightened

This is really marvelous Preston. The water is perfectly handled in terms of shutter speed. It has movement and beauty. The overall color composition is excellent but especially so in the water which is so diverse in colors, from yellows to greens to blues and cyan. A really fine image.

My only and really insignificant nit is that the rocks look a bit soft in focus on my screen. Since this is taken from a tripod I wonder if this could be due to image stabilization set on the lens. I have found that if IM is set on while shooting moving water it will cause just the slightest bluriness in the non moving objects. Canon claims that this is an issue that's been fixed but I found it to exist on my canon camera and lenses.

Igor, Image Stabilization was "Off". If I view the Nikon RAW file at 100%, the rocks look pretty sharp. The same goes for viewing the large version here at 100% in my browser.

If others see the same softness as you, I may look at some selective sharpening in my master file.

I decided to go ahead and selectively sharpen the rock on my master file. I uploaded a 1050 px version to my Website. Take a look, if you like.

Thanks for your comments!

The water motion makes this sing for me Preston.  I think the rock softness is due to the water movement which looks natural to me and I am OK with that.

I really like this one, Preston.  Often stream abstracts don't do it for me, but the flow around the rock really gives this life.  One of my favorite parts of the image is the dancing (splashing) water behind the rock.  The sharpness is not an issue for me.

You've got a fine balance between the rock at the top and the moving water, Preston.  The variety of tones in the water as well as the movement make for a very dynamic image.  The sharpness in the rocks looks fine to me.

Preston, I like this very much! This comp works great for me and I just love the look of the water and flow it has. Great color and texture!! I checked out the selectively sharpen link from your website and it does look better to me. Really nice work!

The colors are subtle, but very beautiful.

Love the simplicity here Preston.  The flow of the water is wonderful and I think the shutter speed chosen is just right.  The granite does a great job anchoring the scene - although technically an "anchor" would be on the bottom? angel

What strikes me the most and I'm enjoying the most is the colors in the water and expecially the translucence in the LR area of the frame.  Wonderfully captured!

Processing looks spot on and looks plenty sharp to my eye. Nice take away from Deadman's Creek.

Nice mix of colors, shutter speed and curvature to the water flow.  Looks good.
