Yellow Grizzly

This is one of two young grizzlies we were fortunate enough to see on the road East of Fishing Bridge. Fortunately we were only the third car in line when they showed up, and the rangers hadn't arrived yet to shut everyone out of seeing the wildlife in Yellowstone.

Specs:  Canon 5Diii, iso 640, f8, 1/320 sec, 100-400 ISL ii with 1.4 TC at 560 mm, 80% of original in large version, slightly different crop for small version. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions for improvements.

Full disclosure, I cloned out a few OOF pine tips in the FG.

Hi Ed,
Very nice shot with a great pose and setting. Is that a waterfall behind him? I think the shadows need to be opened up especially in the eyes. I hope you don't mind but the I tweaked it a bit.

What you said is not offensive but I'm sure the crowd's benefit to the local economy is one consideration. I came back from Yellowstone/Tetons last Friday. The Tetons always attract less people because they don't have the geysers, waterfalls etc... If you want the wildlife, it's a better deal in the summer.

Hisham.

Thank you Hisham. It is not a waterfall in the BG, but there was a grey hillside with a lot of burnt trees.  I always hesitate to try to lift the shadows too much when I am processing because I have overdone it in the past with poor results, but you have done a nice job bringing out the catch light in the eye with your processing. Thank you, Ed

Ed,  I have found the rangers in Yellowstone a bit heavy handed at times and downright mean at other times. Not sure what the solution is, but it does seem when something worthwhile appears, the rangers show up and make everyone move on.

Ed: I really like the pose of the bear and the detail that you've captured. Two minor suggestions: 1, crop a bit from the left and 2, take down the saturation of the greens just a bit. Richard

I would love to have this image in my files.  I have been to Yellowstone several times and all my grizzly sightings have been at very great distance.  Nicely composed and I do think Hisham's edits improve.

I'm jealous of your encounter.  I agree the tweaking to reveal eye catchlight is strong improvement.  Richard offered good ideas, too.
