Excellent detail in the hummer, Richard, and a nice composition and bg.  Given the angle of the perch, a bit more dof might have been nice, but I suspect your settings were anticipating flight shots.  I particularly like the one extending feather on the gorget that's so characteristic of this species.

Good detail in the feathers and face.  I like the composition and the perch you caught this one on.  Not familiar with this species, is this a male or female or juvenal ?  My guess is male.  TFS.

This is a young male.

Adult males have a rosy red gorget from the chin down to the breast that also covers the crown. Younger felames lack the red, but old females can show a small amount of red on the throat. This bird is growing into the brightly attired adult male.

My last post of an Anna's Hummingbird was a full adult male.

Hi Richard,

I like the pose as he seems to be checking you out.  Good pose and I'd like more DOF.  That's the way it goes for bird photography.....................Jim

Nice detailed look at this and is hummingbird.  I like the light on the head.  I agree that a little more depth of field on the perch would have probably made the image look a little stronger.  The clouds in the background add to the image.
