Blue and Yellow Macaws

In and around Emas National Park (western Brazil), I saw a fair number of Blue and yellow macaws.  My last time seeing this species was during a visit to Ecuador and Bolivia five years ago, but this was my first opportunity to get any decent and somewhat close photo ops.

While exploring one of the country roads outside the park late one afternoon, a pair of macaws flew by fairly low, so I snapped a couple quick shots.  There was some nice warm light, and I liked the alternate wing pose in this shot.

Incidentally, if you're interested, I've just published my full gallery of avian images from this trip on my website.

Beautiful, Max.  Nice to get them both in the focal plane so nicely and with such beautiful light.

Hi Max
You have a really nice hand-held photograph here.

Not sure why this only has 2 comments Max. I like this a lot, especially with the opposite wing positions. Nice work!

Nice to see the wing up and wing down in formation.  This creates a fine composition.  I like the colors in the afternoon sun.  I did have a look at your website and you got some really superb shots.  I'm pretty amazed that you can handhold a 600 with a 1.4X and get such detail.  That is one heavy lens set up.  I'm happy to be able to hold a 4 1/2 pound lens and get similar detail.  But I suppose I have to remember that you're a young guy.
