Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)

Gilbert Water Ranch, AZ
Date: September 27, 2017, 8:20 am
Equipment: Nikon D7200, AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR @ 500mm, Induro CLT303 tripod, RRS BH-55
Exposure: ISO 800, Aperture priority matrix metered, 1/800th @ f/11
Raw, PS CC 2017 on Mac, cropped to 76% of full frame

Something recent, for a change. It is still a bit too hot around Phoenix, but I made a test visit to the Water Ranch a couple weeks ago to see how the season was progressing. It was still too early for wintering species, but I figured this Mallard would at least provide a chance to exercise my gear.

Good side view with nice lighting.  I like the texture on the water.  The pose and composition go well together.

Well composed and detailed. Good work in pretty harsh light.

This is well timed for the preening, Rich. I think you cropped it well for the composition.

A lovely portrait, Richard.  The plumage detail is superb and your dof is perfect.  I also like the pose of the duck.
