Reddish Coming of Age

I've been seeing these juveniles in Gulfport on occasion, and I found this one earlier today in windy overcast conditions. This one is beginning to lose the drab ugliness of youth to show some of the adult plumage. I liked the pose and distinctive yellow eye. Full frame. Speaking of ugly, this is what the MS Sound looks like churned up by a strong southeaster.

Nice, Bill.  Excellent detail and that eye really does pop in this plumage.  It really blends in with that roiled up water.

I had the same thought as Dennis with respect to the color cast of the water and the colors of the Heron.  I like the pose.  The I stands out quite nicely.

Nice shot, Bill.  I have never had the privilege to see one of these to photograph, but am scheduled Monday to go with another photographer to a state park in SC where they are seen, so hoping to site one.  His eye really does show up nicely.

Nice moody colors throughout the image. The chop makes for some extra to look at! Well seen and executed, cheers, Hans
