New England Woods

A wonderful mile hike along a small stream in the woods of Western Massachusetts. A gray overcast day with plenty of rain (wish I had an umbrella or poncho to deal with it). The colors were wonderful and I especially liked this pairing. Not sure of the hardwoods...I am thinking Hickory and Beech? Comments and critique welcomed or just verifying the trees.

Stephen, this is a great take on fall colors, with the two sets of leaves emphasized nicely even as you included plenty of "background" to complete the story.  This looks like it was shot in shade, which is important for seeing the background, but some extra "glow" in the leaves would add interest, maybe a slight saturation boost in the reds and yellows and/or some dodging of the leaves using luminosity masks to emphasize the leaves and not their surroundings.

Lovely color Stephen.  Kinda of an off season season this year in general but this is brilliant!

I like the orange and yellow leaves against the steel blue bark. Maybe try a few points of brightness and see if it fits the mood you want.  This is a nice tight scene to me.

Stephen,

At first glance, this seems a bit busy and scattered.  But upon further study, I think this is a really fine autumn image that captures much of what we find so wonderful about fall.  I like how the trunks of the trees frame and provide a solid structure and order to the scene.  The trunks left, right and in background are complimented by the autumn leaves and variety of color.  This one grew on me and I like this quite a lot.

Nice combination of colors and textures here.  The DOF works well, too.  Nicely done.
