Roadside Beauty

A combination of two bad knees, a backpack stuffed with full frame camera and fast heavy lenses, and my general laziness as I get older, make me seek my photo opportunities without too much trekking. Thankfully, our National Park system presents bountiful vistas. I think I'll present a series of photos, all of which were taken standing in the road, on the shoulder, or in a parking lot.

Sweet...
Maybe just a tad more contrast for me.
Lovely.

Roadside beauty indeed. Beautiful autumn color along with some wonderful atmospherics in this one, Mike. I wish I could have been there with you. Looking forward to your upcoming posts.

The slightly blue fog and yellow leaves make a heavenly combination. I can't get enough of the foggy, autumn scenes posted here.
The V shape trunks make a nice anchor vertically, while the yellows provide the horizontals. Parking lot or not, this is really beautiful! I could see boosting the contrast a bit in the dark trunks but I wouldn't want to see a lots of the other detail of background branches. Lovely as is.

Michael,

A beauty indeed!  This is like puzzle piece that belongs to a much larger puzzle; in other words, piece together a bunch of these and get the full autumn tree.  I think you've done an excellent job isolating this one section with opposing branches of beautiful fall color.  Can't think of anything I would change, and I see no nits.

all of which were taken standing in the road, on the shoulder, or in a parking lot.

Here, here!  Just this last Monday I was walking the paved path right next to a major pullout in Yosemite Valley.  There were frosted black oak leaves everywhere.  If I had found a compelling enough grouping of them, I would have photographed them.

“Anything more than 500 yards from the car just isn’t photogenic.”  – Edward Weston

I'm not saying there's any better value of a photograph because of it's location and where it's found, but there are boundless opportunities for great photographs and you don't have to walk far to find them.

The glowing yellow leaves with the rest of the view fading into the fog looks great, Michael.  A moderate fog always has a sense of mystery that I enjoy.  In this case the bright foreground leaves make this warmly inviting even as it's nicely mysterious.  Very well done.

Beautiful color and mood. The bare branch coming in from the top throws me off a touch. But without painful cloning, not much you can do about it. Otherwise, quite beautiful.

Michael, This is very enjoyable to look at. The quiet mood is just wonderful and I love what the fog has done here. Very nice!

Michael,  this is a beautiful image! I hear what you're saying about trekking for an image.  My knees and back are history.  You have a great find here.  Great job!

I know that I had to have walked / drove past a number of scenes like this on my recent trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I always have a hard time "seeing" these scenes due to the complexity.  You definitely saw this beautiful scene and captured it very well.  The composition and mood work for my eye.

I can't think of anything to criticise. The way the verticals and horizontal elements combine is so harmonious.
