Black-collared Hawk

In mid-September I was privileged to explore the Pantanal in Brazil for the first time with a small group of photographers which included Charlie Van Tassel (a great guy to photograph with by the way). The experience was everything I was expecting and more, I am eagerly looking forward to returning next August.

Black-collared Hawks were a fairly common sight on this trip and fish is their primary food. We often found them perched along the rivers edge or perched near a small pond, giving us a variety of photographic opportunities.

Canon 7DII; 100-400II @ 400mm; ISO 800; 1/800; handled; manual settings with spot meter

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

That's a really cool image, Ken, and a very neat bird.  Judging by the shift in color I'm seeing between your small and large images it looks like you're letting the NPN software create the smaller image as that can change the color a lot sometimes.

An interesting shot.  I like the perspective with the hawk coming at you.

Always a tough job getting a photo of an oncoming flying object.  You are in a good position to catch this hawk coming right at you.  Despite all the clutter beneath the bird, you did an excellent job in isolating the hawk.  Terrific color and detail.
