We got very good looks at several of these Bee-Eaters the afternoon  we arrived in Thailand.  Many might not like the head-on pose, but I think it offers a cool look at this beautiful bird.

Indeed he is beautiful!  Although I often find a head-on pose distracting, in this case I do not find a real negative.  The bill is not too oof, and the way it is positioned it is really minimized.  The lighting and subtle bg is absolutely lovely.

Yes Chuck, the head-on view is not all that popular but in this case I think it works because it shows off gorgeous and colorful plumage.  The slightly off-center portrait view also works in this case.  Sometimes rules are meant to be broken.

Charlie, you got a real winner here. The square-on pose is exceptional, and the comp and color to die for.

I like it, Chuck.  The way the eyes set in this species help make the head-on pose work well.

Hi Chuck,

This simple composition works well here. I wish that there was a little more DOF to get the tail and more of the perch included with the subject.  Well done......................Jim
