Vireo olivaceus

I captured this Red-eyed Vireo back in September. Not really a rare species to see, but this is the best chance I have had at capturing a decent image of one. I cloned out a small stick in the upper right corner.

Canon 1DX, 800mm f5.6L IS +1.4 TC
1/2500, f8, Partial Metering
ISO 800

Thank You.

Well composed, Matt, and good focus for wide open. The catchlight and pose work well. That's lots of glass if this is hand held.

Definitely not hand held Bill. I can only hand hold this lens for about 5 minutes and  my arms start talking to me. This is with my 5541LS tripod and a Wimberley 200 head.

A very pleasing look at this Red Eyed Vireo.  Can't ask for more  in a pose.  The detail is superb.  Terrific light and background.  The 800 mm lens does not have much depth of field especially with the extender.

This is really sweet, Matt.  Nice diagonal perch and the bird is just perfect, with excellent detail and a neat attitude.

In spite of having been close to nature all my life, a bird nut, and an ex-wildlife biologist, I have never seen any species of vireo.  It's like they don't really exist, yet here is a superb image of one.  I really like everything about this - really sharp and detailed, great exposure, perch, and background.  Very nice work!

Matt: there's gorgeous detail and color rendition when viewed large as well as having a fine pose, perch and background. The most minor nit would be to tone down the highlights on the bird's leg. Richard
