Autumn Abstract

This scene along the shore of Eagle Lake in Acadia National Park caught my attention. I liked the reeds in the water, and decided to get close to them from above with a wide angle lens to distort perspective and create a radial effect. I also like how fallen autumn leaves had randomly dispersed themselves throughout the scene. There is no center of interest here, but I just liked the combination of the reeds and the leaves.

That's cool Ed.  I like the leaf colour and the downward angle makes the needle sharp reed grass look like they are exploding out of the frame.

Rich details and graphic.  Like how the a diagonal line somewhat separates the top grasses from the lower leaves and open water area.  Nice intimate scene that definitely says autumn without the trees.

Wonderful abstract of lines and colored shapes. It looks like a bouquet of flowers. This is really marvelous. Can't think of any suggestions. There is one leaf that's center bottom that stands out with it's orange color that I would desaturate.

Oh my, Ed, you have hit a homerun with this!!  I have been a nature photographer for a good while now but I have very few photographs on my walls, but this one would certainly qualify for inclusion.  I consider an image (any type of image - photo, painting, sculpture, et al) a success when it elicits a strong emotional response, where I literally stop, suck in a deep breath and just admire it before really starting to study it.  This image does just that for me.  This draws me deep into the scene, even though the scene itself is quite small.  I feel the warmth of the water (I live in Florida, the water is warm here).  For me, this gets an A+ for emotional response.  I give it an A for artistic response, with the only sticking point being the uneven lighting on the grass.  Center left is brighter and more interesting than center right. If it were mine (I wish!!) I might play with the center right area to see if it could be successfully brought up a little to come close to center left intensity.

For the second time today, I get the pleasure of saying -  Excellent photography.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have reposted it reflecting Igor's comment on the over-saturated leaf, and Bills comment about the left side being brighter than the right. Thank you Bill, when I went to post this originally I missed this difference in luminosity left/right, it certainly makes a big improvement to correct this. Bill, the water was definitely not warm (Maine in October) and I know the hard way because I had to stand in the water to get this view looking down.

Ed, the repost is wonderful.  Bringing up the lightness on the right made a huge improvement IMHO.  De-saturating the leaf helped too.  Print this LARGE and hang proudly.  If you sell your images, I think this one would be a big seller.

This is quite nice, and the repost would make a lovely print. The counterpoint between the leaves and the sedges gives this a fine dynamic. The blue sky reflected in the water adds a nice touch of cool color. Well done, Ed!

I like this quite a bit with the various autumn colors interspersed among the green reeds. Well done.

The repost is the ticket here, Ed. The little bit of added brightness has really made this intimate scene pop. The large version is a beauty as it lets my eye wander around the scene and savor all the lovely details. When were you in Acadia this year as most of the leaves my brother and I saw were dried out and no where this colorful around Eagle Lake. BTW great POV.

To Ed Lowe, you are correct, this is image is not from 2017, when we had a generally poor foliage season.. Since I am a new member at NPN, I'm posting some images from prior years. About half of what I've posted so far for autumn images are from 2017, from places where I found pockets of color.

This is a well seen and executed abstract, Ed.  The mix of colorful leaves and strong vertical grasses looks great.  The colors look a bit too saturated for a "natural scene" but work great as an abstract.  I missed the repost...  It's a fine improvement, especially with the improvement in luminosity balance.

A subtle but definite improvement in the repost. Love how kaleidoscopic this looks.

Ed,

This is fantastic - AND unique. I can't say I've seen and autumn leaf image mixed with the verticals of the reeds.  Beautifully executed and seen.  Congrats!

Not a nit, but a subjective suggestion.  Not sure if you have or use Tony Kuyper's masks and other things, but I could see dropping the very light values a smidge - in those brighter leaves.  But no biggie really.

Excellent work!
