Mysterious Lake

On a day in December this year at the shore of Lake Altaussee, within the Salzkammergut region, Austria. Clouds and fog made for a rather mysterious atmosphere to me.

Comments and critique are welcome.

While I really love the mood here with the fog and reflection I think this would be even stronger with a crop from the top and bottom to place more of an emphasis on all the wonderful stuff along the shoreline, Peter. Just a suggestion of course. Did you happen to shoot any horizontals of this moody scene? Nice eye to spot this.

Peter,

Excellent "reflection-scape."  The symmetry of course is cool and I can see and feel a bit of that mysterious mood you mention - Just something different about the light, tones, etc.  Quite unique actually.

The only suggestion I have really is to either go b&w all the way, or crop the stuff off at the bottom.  For me, the very bottom detracts a little bit from that atmosphere and the colors conflict (for me anyway) the mono chromatic look to this.  So perhaps converting fully to b&w might mitigate the color issue at the bottom.  Of course your mileage may vary and may just like the bottom part.

Oh, I was also thinking about burning down the rock areas above the shoreline and perhaps even dodging the darkest part of the top of the mountain's reflection near the bottom.  Both minor suggestions.

This is a somewhat unusual reflection image. What makes it particularly different is the subtle colored bottom hues on a largely monochromatic image. Rather than remove them as Lon recommends you could promote the by having an image of just the reflection, no shoreline or above. I would crop just below the white part of the reflection (or include it an burn it in). Just an idea.

The reflection is wonderful, and I love the misty mood. I too would crop the bottom. Nice idea here, Peter.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful comments!

Standing there I was attracted by the warming brown shades at the bottom complementing the cold wintry scene in the distance.

Lon, the rocks are covered with snow, therefore I kept the brightness.

Thought this was a BW until I saw the bottom strip.  Beautiful mood and mystery as you say.  Might consider a crop without the bottom color portion to stick with the uniform BW tones.  The subtle like hitting the far rock wall is sweet.  Such a majestic country you have.

The symmetrical reflection and curves are real nice.  I am a little unsure about the two rocks on the bottom edge though-they grab my eye, but again the visible shore grounds the image.
