Visiting Kuiburi National Park looking for Asian Elephants we saw this Great Hornbill in some distant trees. We were then treated to some wonderfully close views as the bird flew right in front of our viewing position.

Charles: what a fabulous photo. I like the bird's pose which shows its distinctive features very well and the colors and details are good. I was surprised how sharp the bird was given the shutter speed. The only nit I notice on the large version are what appears to be sharpening halos on the black parts of the body and wings and which may well be a problem with my monitor. Great exposure, lighting and detail Chuck.  No need to shoot this at iso 100.  I remember seeing this bird from what seemed like a mile away and hoping it would fly in our direction,  it couldn't have picked a better route.  devil

What a treat to get one out in the open in flight.  Really well done capturing this in a way that shows off all the great detail.

Beautiful flight shot of a crazy looking bird, Chuck.  The detailin the larger image is outstanding and the exposure is smuck on.

Really good job in the color, detail, and wing position in this image Chuck.  I would have been thrilled to get this.

That's a very striking bird Charles.
I'd love to see more images. It looks a lot more colourful than the hornbills we get in Africa.
