Fish Eye + Repost

I photographed one of the lyretail anthias in my reef tank and used 34 mm of extension plus a 1.4x teleconverter to get enough magnification  for the shot. The color of the eyes of these fish is very intense.  I used an off camera flash set at -1/3ev to illuminate the fish. I cropped about 40% from the image to get an ideal comp.  K5 IIs, 180 mm f3.5 (1/180 sec at f10, Iso 640) Levels to set black point, Topaz Detail with increase in saturation..............................Jim

Jim, you've got some awesome colors here, very definitely eye popping.  This comp. looks great as well.  In the larger version, there's a bit of oof softening towards the right edge.  Can you get a more dof with a higher f-stop by upping the flash?

Thank you Bill and Mark for evaluating my image.  Mark your suggestion about increasing the power of the flash improved the photo quite a bit. . I bumped the power up to +1.33 ev, increased the aperture from f10 to f14, and dropped the Iso down to 250.  Crisper and smoother than the original.......................Jim

Wow! Jim this is so bright and colorful. Excellent DOF, profile, and detail here against the jet black BG. Repost is even better. Good work.

Jim the extra sharpness in the repost is a fine improvement on an already stunning shot.  A terrific result.

Jim ..that can go on the wall as a creative picture. You have achieved a lot, as I dont think a fish will stay perfectly still. Beautiful work with the amount of magnification you have achieved.
