Into the Gold

I took a few post processing liberties with this one to make it a bit more atmospheric than it naturally was. I was going for a dark look, with the people walking in the light.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

This is a lovely, dreamy, inviting view, Kathy.  There's also a fine "old school" look with everything suffused with yellow/gold.  I would toy with opening up the background through the trees subtly, but am not sure that would be an improvement.

I agree with Mark's observations, Kathy. It's a fine image and I like the light and color.

If you want, you could try cloning out the hiker on the right (who appears to have stopped to fuss with his pack) as well as his hiking poles. I think the image would be even better with just the solitary hiker on the left.

This hasa really nice artistic effect Kathy.  I love the antiqued gold look.  I also really like the composition, with the people being small on the bottom under a very tall forest. It could only be better if they were coming your way, instead of walking away.

Beautiful scene and I think you achieved your symbolic goal. I like Scott's idea of cloning out the right hiker and remove the post and sign on the right as well? Works real nice as presented but I think it might have more impact with the alterations (if that is something you are comfortable with).

Awesome image Kathy!  Excellent framing and feel to the photograph
If I did anything, I might clone out the extra clothing/pack on the right as I paused wondering what he was doing.  Very minor though as I love this photo as presented!

It came out great, Kathy, and I love the gold tones.
