Sanderling

Another one from our trip to the Monterey Peninsula.  This was taken at Asilomar Beach State Park.  The Sanderlings were quite cooperative most mornings and were pretty tolerant of humans as long as you took it slow.  This was one of two mornings when we didn't have overcast skies early and on the other one some jerk let his two pit bulls chase all the birds off the beach even though it was an on-leash area.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, f/8, 1/2500, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 14.5 MP.  Taken at 8:09 am (the morning of the time change).

Your comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look,

Love the light on this one, Dennis.  The reflected warmth brings out the feather details that you recorded with great sharpness.  It's great that you also caught some of that warm light reflected on the wet sand.

Too bad about the thoughtless dog owner.  Probably the type of person who would mess things up even without dogs.

The low POV really makes this for me Dennis, that and the early morning light.  The Sanderling is very sharp. Nice beach scene!

Interesting pose, Dennis. Looks windy. Maybe he was skittish for fear of another intruder. I had a similar experience shooting Egrets in Tampa Bay, when the scene was disrupted by a jet ski which promptly grounded and was stuck there for the next high tide, so sweet revenge for me. Nice light and composition.

The large version is exceptional Dennis. Great light, great details especially in the downy fluff and the upper feathers.  Great low perspective too.

Dennis, sometime life gives us a little "gift",  both from the experience of being "in the moment" and also having the opportunity to beautifully capture a Sanderling in perfect light.  Inspiring image!
