<div>Please critique based on the following:</div> <div>Not my goal:  Sell images, print images, frame images (again, not my goal).</div> <div>My goal:  Explore nature as fully as I can in my life and share pictures for other peoples' enjoyment.

Hi again, folks.  I live in Decatur (Atlanta area), Georgia now, and not in Florida.

This is a male Northern Cardinal at Newman Wetlands Center in Hampton, Georgia.

I would greatly appreciate any comments or critiques per my above-stated goals.  Thank you!</div>

Welcome back Barbara. This is a really nice look at this cardinal. Nice detail, simple clean composition. Nice use of rule of thirds. Very enjoyable.

Oh, Barbara, this is really good.  Like Ed said, it is an enjoyable image.  The details really show well in the large version.  And welcome back!  I hope you enjoy living in GA, and can find many nice places to go shoot.

Barbara:

Nice frame.  I like the position of the bird in the frame and the left to right look.  I don't care for the green space below the perch.  The perch is also not ideal as it is pretty big for a bird that size.  Can't do much about that, but it is an observation.

By the way..... My comments would have been exactly the same as I don't see a difference in critique based on wanting to sell images or not, print images or not.  Good images are good images.  As Ansel Adams said:

"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs."

Hi Barbara.  Welcome back, and I'm glad your resettled and finding new places to explore.  As far as I'm concerned, I don't think the criteria are particularly incompatible with one another, but for what it's worth, I like this.  You really nailed theintensity of the reds and you caught a captivating head turn.  The perch does feel a bit massive for the bird, but per your criteria, it's the bird that counts, and not so much the perch.

Well done.

Excellent head turn and detail.  I find it a little dark on my calibrated monitor.  With respect to the massive perch issue, you could crop half of the perch from the bottom and then resize the frame to follow the rule of thirds.
