This wild muscovy duck was hanging out around the resacas near Fort Brown, Brownsville, Texas at the end of April. I thought the eye, and the warts, and the leathery face were fascinating. The bold colors were also intriguing. Canon 60D, f5.6, 1/800 sec, iso 800, 100-400 ISLii at 400 mm.

Ed, he looks like a warrior from a different world. I do like the leathery look to his face and the way the feather sweep across his head. Does he have a Harley Davison by chance. What a character he is up close. I had never seen one so thank you for sharing. Great close-up image with all the fine detail.

This is quite the head shot, Ed. The colors and the shapes are very striking. Is this normal for this type of Duck? It is quite a "look". Neat shot.

Thank you Norma and Mark. This is the usual look for wild drakes. They have been domesticated quite heavily and have a lot of variation in coloration and all of the bumps and warts. The hens seem to have less ornamentation, but still a lot of red on their heads. Apparently the wild muscovies are mostly black with a few white highlights along the edges.
