In the Eyes

There is a finch disease, that affects usually only one eye.  They have some kind of growth blocking their vision.  And, many times they appear to be squinting.  the only treatment I've heard of is to keep your feeders clean, so nobody else gets it!

Sad, that such a lovely songbird is susceptible to this highly contagious disease.

FYI, as this was a small crop, I used Topaz clean to sharpen and show off this feathers and the squinty eye.

Yes, I've seen this a few times at our feeder as well.  The colors (as well as the squint) look good, Lucy.  Your use of Topaz creates some interesting textures in the feathers.

It's funny how strict the avian forum is...as I have found.   I love the effect Topaz clean gives the detail in the feathers and clarity to my bird and other photos.   Maybe this is my "niche".....winklaugh...A "slightly" artistically focus enhancement niche.

It's called Mycoplasmal conjunctivitis and it first appeared in the U.S. in 1994; it's now reached all 48 contiguous states. Bad stuff. Here's a link to some useful information.

Nice documentation, Lucy. I'm not sure about Topaz on feathers but it is an interesting effect.
