Badlands Ram

my husband and I were getting pretty discouraged (!) that we had not seen any rams on our trek through the Badlands. It was getting very late in afternoon and we were hiking back towards our vehicle when we spotted this ram. I would have liked to have captured him more offset from the Badlands itself, but sometimes you take what you get and I didn't want him to bolt so we froze. He was pretty majestic, and the nice clouds behind him helped offset his colors.

Did manage to capture some images of ewe with her new one. So will wait to post those.

I like this image a lot.   Shows a bighorn in an environment not usually associated with bighorn sheep.  I like that you have a section of the Badlands in the image.  The ram seems to be reflecting the light from the grasses as well.  Overall a very interesting image.  I do wish you had a bit more detail in its face, but OK as it is.  Thanks for sharing.

Nice sidelighting.  The badlands and clouds really add to the image.

Great environmental shot Jan.  I like the hilltop view of this guy and the pyramids in the BG.

This is a pleasing scene.  I understand why one wants to have him offset from background badlands, but the fact that his head is fully silhouetted makes this work fine.  I like the saturation and really like the clouds, which add a good element.  I think the contrast is a little punchy, and would consider backing off contrast in post processing, and/or maybe you can lift a little more detail from the shadows in post processing.
