Great Blue Heron catches vole for breakfast in York Harbor Maine 9:00am. It was a very windy day as you can see in the grasses.

Nikon D5300, 1/1000sec, f6.3, ISO800, lens: 70-300 f4.5 - 6.3

The focal length I used 300mm. I did crop the left side.

Nice capture for both of you, Norma.  Looks like the GBH isn't willing to share though, and is finding a safe place to eat breakfast.

Good catch, Norma.  I really like the energy of the heron's pose.  My only nit as with all that energy pushing to the left, I wish there were more room on that side.

Always fun to see these guys catch rodents.  Nice action.  I agree with Dennis that it would be nice to have a little more room on the left side.

I agree this is a really nice capture, you don’t specify what focal length you used and if there was a crop involved.

You have plenty of canvas to work with then so I would definitely try a crop with room to the left of the heron’s head.

Great opportunity and a nice capture of the action, Norma.  I agree with the others that the same crop except with the same proportions as the original photo and the bird on the right side would work very well.
