Sudden Course Correction

Don't you just hate it when the guy in front makes a sudden unannounced turn? Two Bald Eagles coming in low when something caught the eye of the one in front.  I had intentionally positioned myself where I could get the mountain tops in the background as they flew over.

Sony a6500, FE100400GSM @ 114mm, ISO-100, f/3.5, 1/4000, hand held.

Gary:

This is a very cool image with the eagles.  Nice poses, nice and sharp.

I think the image is too dark however. Looking at the white plumage in the eagles shows at best gray, not white.  I'd brighten the entire image, and target some luminance on he eagles white plumage.

I love the poses of the eagles too, Gary.  Great capture.  I agree with Keith, at least on my monitor it also looks grayish where it should be white.  Otherwise, an outstanding shot, with both of them sharp in focus at f3.5, so they were very close together.

Gary, this is another fine action shot. Good points by Keith and Shirley. I'm also surprised you got both sharp at f3.5. Compositionally I think that, since the lead bird is flying back into the scene, it would work well with a bit of crop off the left as an option.

How do you get these guys to fly by so close to you, Gary.  At 114 mm they must ave been about 20 feet from you.  Amazing!  Excellent detail in both birds and putting the mountain in the background was a great idea.

Thank you, all, for the helpful critiques.  I think my monitor is probably set too bright as I regularly get the feedback that my images are a little dark when I post them.  I brightened this one up with a little extra on the eagles as suggested by Keith and I also cropped some off the left and bottom as suggested by Bill.   Also, to answer a couple other questions, the 114 mm focal length doesn't include the crop factor which makes it 171 mm plus I failed to mention that the original crop was approximately 40%.  They weren't quite as close as the numbers sound.

.  Effective action image.  I like the detail in the composition.  The mountains in the background are great addition.
