Grt Blue Heron Portrait

When I got home this morning after a productive few hours at the Savannah NWR. I was surprised when I looked at all the head shots of the GBH. Somewhere on or around it was a very persistent mosquito! Quite honestly, I guess it never occurred to me that birds would suffer from the annoyance of the ubiquitous mosquitoes! Talk about equal opportunity bloodsuckers! Please be sure to look at the larger image. It has the best presence, color and detail. Plus, you can see the mosquito!

Thanks for looking and any comments/critiques.

Wonderful light, color and detail.  I get a nice buzz just looking at it.

Cute, Phil.  A very nice portrait as well.  Unusual head turn, but I like the feel it gives to the image.

Phil the light is so nice and the feather detail ... great.  I love that little mosquito buzzing away. GBH could have had him in one bite.

Very good use of side-lighting, Phil. Not a classic profile, but a nice headshot with the bug.

Very entertaining Phil!  Also, not a bad image of the GBH, although a little further head turn toward the camera might have improved this.

Cool portrait, Phil. But isn't it more of a whine?

Jim, it's the Alaskan mosquito that whines. There are so many of them that they are going hungry, hence the whine. Southern mosquitoes being very hardy from having to endure the heat, have a more base growl, hence the "bzzz", Those bad boys are tough!sad

I love the light and detail in this portrait but the mosquito with the annotated "Bzzzz" really makes it real and special!  It's impressive how much detail you can see in the mosquito when viewing large!  Made me want to swat it frown
