Lakeside Morning

I hoped to capture the little pine trees that get twisted and turned by the heavy winter snows at this lake in the Sierras at 8200'. The morning light was soft, and all vista shots were out due to smoky skies. It has been a summer of smoke in the California mountains, ever since mid-July. We had smoke last summer, too, but not quite so early. The word "apocalyptic" has been mentioned by some. the earth seems fragile to us here at the moment, and this image partially reflects that feeling.

Canon 5dM3, ISO400, 67mm, f/9, 1/100 sec.

Thanks in advance for any comments or feedback.

Great light and the pastels of the lake reflection are quite nice. I might brighten that nearest tree trunk a bit so I could see some more bark detail.

Lovely scene.  I like how the image reveals itself in layers of light as you move from near to far objects in the scene.

This is interesting...the thumbnail to me is intriguing but doesnt translate once I open up the image. Do like the soft light and comp here.

Beautiful light, color and depth. Usually tree framing of a scene does not work for me, but in this one, it works quite well and is very effective. Very nice.

Really a nice image, Kathy.  The soft light combined with the frame of the trees is very appealing.  I might clone a couple stragglers along the top edge on the right side, but that’s pretty minor.

Really strong composition. The light is sweet and I love the tranquil surface of that background.

This is beautiful, Kathy.  The shapes of the foreground trees are great and then there are the lovely inviting colors in the water.  I don't see this as apocalyptic, I see this as wonderfully inviting.  I sure hope views like this remain in the western mountains.

The sunlit squiggly trees against the blue and green background has a nice appeal.

This is a really interesting photograph. The composition is so well thought out and I love how the light is gently caressing the landscape. the soft reflections in the lake tell the story of the surroundings.

Beautiful work Kathy.
