Mooselookmeguntic Lake August 2018 sunset from the Height of Land on route 17.

Nikon D500, lens 70-300, f4.5-5.6, FL 200, 1/8000, F5.3, ISO5000

I was playing around with the ISO and may have gotten too much noise with this setting.

Very nice sunset colors and cloud formation.  Depending on the look you're after, you might play with the dehaze filter and see if you like the results.

Allen took your advice and used the dehaze filter. Here are the results.

Norma, I really like the scene, with it's great sense of depth and the colors in both the sky and the reflection.  The noise is a bit much and how it the muddies the middle ground is not to my tastes, but there's a nice "artistic" flair to your approach.  I like the dehazed repost a bit better, but the differences are subtle.  I'm not sure where you are in "post processing" or what software you use.  An alternative (with more personal control) to a dehaze filter is to burn-in the darker areas using a luminosity mask.  Such masks, let you pick a range of dark (or other) tones and selective darken (burn-in) just those tones.  Similarly, bright or mid-tone luminosity masks let you adjust specific tonal ranges with out adjusting their saturation.  If that kind of detailed processing interests you, Tony Kuyper's web site has a good description and examples (http://goodlight.us/writing/luminositymasks/luminositymasks-1.html).  (There are lots of other web sites that describe luminosity masks also, but Tony is a long time NPN member...)

I love the colors of the sky and sun.  The overall comp works very nicely.  The mid ground noise is problematic and you might try some noise reduction to see if that can be addressed.  Mark has some good recommendations form isolating specific areas of the image.  Tony’s actions are a wonderful journey if you should be so inclined.

I think Mark made some good comments and suggestions. I like the soft colors in the image.

This is a really nice grand-scenic. The partially obscured sun and the soft rendition of the land and water gives a lovely soothing feeling.
