Tiniest Beachcomber

These tiny Least Sandpipers were all over the rocky beach as the tide came in.  I sat down on a foam pad right next to their favorite spot and within a few minutes they decided I wasn't a problem and resumed their feeding.  I just laid the camera on the pad next to me, turned the LCD viewer face up so I could compose the shots and waited for them to walk by.  They are very small, about the same body size as the Violet Green Swallows that were flying around, so I had to use the full zoom even though they were quite close to me. I like this shot as it gives you a pretty good idea what the world looks like from their view point.  You have to view large to get the full benefit.

Sony a6500, FE100400GSM @ 400mm, ISO-160, f/5.6, 1/2000, handheld (on the ground).

Nice look at the sandpiper in its environment.  Good job on the low angle.

I like the point of view, Gary, and you have a really nice composition with the little plant on the right balancing it You might want to dim/remove the highlights above the plant as they're rather distracting.  Detail in the Sandpiper is excellent.  That tilting viewscreen must come in handy.  My first digital P&S had one and it worked well.

Excellent light, detail and color.  I really like the OOF water in the background.

Can't beat a low angle with a peep. I've spent a lot of time prone in the mud, wishing I had an articulating viewfinder.cool
