I spent the morning at our local arboretum attempting to capture images of rufous hummingbirds, which are starting to migrate through my area.  No luck on the rufous, but I did catch this male Anna's after his quick dip in a park fountain.  7D2 500/F4+1.4, F8, 1/640, -0.33 EC, ISO 800, tripod.  Thanks for any comments or suggestions, Dave

Hi David,

It looks like you had some nice light on this Anna's hummer.  The water droplets are a nice addition.  Overall, a good natural light shot.  You could add some space up at the top............................Jim

A nice Hummer shot, and the water droplets in the head makes it a stellar image for me ! Love the wing movement as well ! Cheers, Hans

Superb detail in the head and body, Dave, and I like the amount of wing blur.  The water drops are great.  The gorget seems a slightly odd shadeof red on my monitor, but they can change a lot depending on angle and I haven't seen many Anna's.  Sweet background.

Nice job grabbing this one David. I really like thw water drops. I do find myself wishing for a bit more DOF, but without a flash and already at 1/640 with ISO 800 on that body, obviously you didn't have a way to achieve it. Still nice work!

Very good look at this hummingbird especially the head detail and the gorget color.  Wing position is interesting and effective.  You even got a little bit of a head turn.  I do agree a tiny bit more depth of field would have put it over the top.

Excellent pose, David. As others have mentioned the water droplets add a lot to the image. The light is also very nice and you got just the right amount of blur on the wing. A little more space on te top will make this composition more balance, IMHO.
