Skipper on Pickerelweed
by Bill Leggett
I saw and commented on Norma Tareila Matl's recent Skipper image and realized I had found a similar species last Sunday in Jean Lafitte NP, although this one was framed with more plant and less BF. This is full frame from about 5-6 ft away as I recall. I would appreciate ID any input on the BF. I had considered toning down the BG in post, but then realized it worked pretty nicely as shot. In retrospect I should have stopped down a fair bit to get better detail in the Pickerelweed, could have easily handled two stops slower shutter speed. Well, maybe next time.

4 commentsYou captured a nice composition with soft patterned BG and tack sharp subjects. I would have gone at least f8 to get most of that pickerel weed sharp...........................Jim
This looks likely (based on its dark color) to be a Northern Broken Dash. The Southern Broken Dash has similar markings but is usually a lighter brown/more golden.
