A weekend of exploring Great Sand Dunes National Park with fellow CNPer Darren Kilgore yielded some nice images, including several intimate landscapes focusing on the forms, shapes and textures of the dunes. I tend to work to keep HOM out of my images, but the footprints in the URC seemed to lend something to this image, so I kept them in.
I had been making my way across the dunes trying to catch up to Darren, and so instead of breaking out the 4x5, I shot a series of these types of images with a D70. I'm kicking myself now for being lazy! Fortunately, the dunes are still there and it's not too long of a drive back

This has a beautiful graininess to it and the placement of the ridgeline in the frame is perfect. Gorgeous, subtle composition that has a very calming effect on my eyes and mind. I love that little hint of shadow in the upper right along the edge of the frame...it adds a nice suggestive depth. I think the soft sepia toning works brilliantly here to give this dune image something different.
