Dunstanburgh Castle
by Guy Edwardes
This is a ruined castle on the coast of Northumberland, England. On this occasion (at 4.15am last week) I didn't have time to search for a new viewpoint so settled on this one which I (and many other photographers) had done several times before. The castle acts only as a focal point within the wider landscape. I was lucky to catch the limpet encrusted boulders before the rising tide engulfed the pool. The sun appeared briefly right on the horizon - just long enough to add some colour and a touch of contrast to the scene.
EOS 1Ds, EF17-40L, Polariser, ISO 100, 2 seconds @ F16, 2 RAW conversions combined to control contrast.

fantastic image, it has almost a dreamy, unreal look...very intriguing, IMO.

Excellent! I love that pink! Good job on the blended exposures.
Guy, well done!
You made your own luck, by being at the right place at the right time with the right knowledge, to create a beautiful image. A great composition and the colours, just fantastic.
I'd like to ask your if a flash was used and if not can you explain the light and shadows on the boulders.
Thanks

I too wonder about the difference in lighting between front and back boulders. Could it be something to do with the polariser?
