Going It Alone

Canon S2 IS @ 50mm
1/640 @ f5.6
Curves, USM

My first post from my first trip to Great Sand Dunes NP and my first post in M&N from my newly acquired S2. I shot a lot of film while there as well but am very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the images from this little camera. I liked the solitary figure facing the expanse of the dunes. All comments welcome. >=))>

Terrific job on this Bill. It's easy to see why you are pleased with the S1, but I don't think the camera can claim much credit here.

The framing on this and your timing in positioning the person are exceptional, but somehow another element comes through- perhaps due to the light. This faily shouts "wind," and the swirls of windblown sand seem to be in all the right places to highlight and enhance the image. For the first nanosecond I was a bit disracted by that lone strip of green in the LRC, but quickly decided that it did a nice job of supporting the bottom of the frame.

This is not your "typical" shot of the GSD, and it's all the better for it. It has almost a lunar or African desert feel to it, which I haven't ever felt before in images from here.

Wow that's neat. It pulls you in and really makes you wonder how it feels to walk there. Well done!

Bill,

I like it too, and I agree the S2 does a nice job.

Very nice, Bill! Your high position and the composition seem to exaggerate the sense of scale lent by the person in the scene, which I think works very well here. Well done!

Awesome Bill! The placement of the person against the lighter dune is perfect. A very stunning shot. Congrats on the EP, it is well deserved!

Great shot Bill - it just wouldn't be the same without the person. I have to remind myself to include people in my landscapes from time to time. I took many dune shots in Namibia myself, but just a few with people in it. And it isn't until you see those shots that you get a good sense of the scale. Congrats on the EP!
