Mother Nature's Window Box

Try as we might to suppress and subdue Mother Nature, she always has a way of showing who's really in control. From dramatic examples like Hurricane Dennis to this more subtle example. I was stuck by the way the Queen Anne's Lace is growing from the wooden frame of the broken window in this abandoned building.

I had a hard time deciding what to title the photo. I toyed with calling it "Mother Nature 1, Man 0" and "Reclamation" before I decided on Mother Nature's Window Box.

I hope it isn't too much "man" for the "man and nature" forums.

Lovely image Kent! The toning is great and really makes this look oldfashioned and beautiful. Lots of character in this image, and a great story too. Very nice!

Truly fine image!
I love the sepia tones of the images, the composition and, more important, its subject!

Nicely executed Kent. Lot's of interest and character. I like the edge treatment too.

Kent,
I love seeing things like this! Nicely done! I like the border/edge, too. BTW, I believe the white flowers are Yarrow and a fine example too! :toast:

Thanks for the comments, all. I was rather pleased with the way the photo came out. I'm glad you all seem to like it as well. To me, one element that makes it work is the broken pane of glass resting on the window sill and pointing at the yarrow. I don't know why, but I like that little sweep of an arc pushing my back into the flowers after perusing the window frame.

And, as usual Michelle, you are right. That is yarrow and not Queen Anne's Lace. As you all probably have noticed by now, my knowledge of things naturel is woefully inadequate, but I'm learning.

Ditto the above comments. You've framed this nicely also. Abandoned buildings offer great intimate shots. Good capture

Great shot Kent. I agree with you about the broken pane of glass. The square format also fits perfectly.

KEnt, this is excellent. The lighting, composition, and the message. Well done. :toast:

Neat image, Kent. My two nits: I'm not too fond of the edge 'deckling' effect (although I probably would be in print form) and a vibrant-feeling image like this should IMO look brighter. This feels just a little too melancholy to me, although that might be your intent.

Good job.

Fantastic image Kent. I think the thing that I like most about it is the feel of the image.

Facinating image, the square format works beautifully, mirroring the window panes and the screen. The edge effect is mildly distracting, IMO to such a great image. I do really like the soft tones you used for this. I love the feelings evoked with your pic. :toast:

Nice framing and composition here. I like the piece of broken glass in the lower right - it really sets off the rest of the shot. Congratulations.
