Milk and Honey

You know I think Scotland is going to be totally without snow this year. (unheard of). The mountains are as bald as a coot. I was on top of Beinn Eighe in a T shirt yesterday, (in Jauary!!!). Now Marc comes back from his exploits in Crater Lake and tells me there has been 240 inches of snow. The best I can do is hoar frost so here it is, at least the light was gorgeous. Glorious honey coloured light scythed its way across hoar frosted stubble lighting the iced birches at the perimeter of a field. it was merely a stage to a grander vista of the Cairngorm mountains beyond, beneath a sky that was heaven sent. I thank my wife and children for the hours grace they gave me and putting up with the inane grin etched on my face for the journey home.

Hi Ian,
sweet photo, I love the colors!

Here in Italy instead it is snowing from a couple of days and there are near 50cm of snow even at low altitude...almost a record!

Aside from the obvious ND filter effect (1/2 dark sky) this is beautiful.

Nice one, Ian. The lighting is superb and I like the rolling hills in this with the nice BG of the treeline and mtns. We're having record temps here...way too warm and no rain or snow. Could be another drought year which is not good for the corn and soy bean farmers :wavey:

Fantastic photo as usual Ian, I know what you mean about the lack of snow this year - I have a new set of ice axes sitting un-christened up stairs and I was really looking forward to some full on winter shots this year as well.

The winter hasn't started this year at all, there has been very little in the way of frost even... I am still holding out hope that it may just kick in sometime in the next few weeks though....

Sweet light Ian! The image reminds me a lot of my part of the world - Alberta, Canada. We aren't known as "big sky country" for nothing!

Sorry we stole all your snow this year Ian. Last year was our second-driest ever so I can relate. This is an absolutely stunning capture with amazing atmosphere, lighting and gives a glorious sense of place. Simply outstanding work here and deserving of the EP.

Hi Ian

Yes, I can understand the inane grin etched on your face! This is just awesome! The richness & depth are lovely! A truly magical moment with a fabulous sky that just leads you to those mountains! Did I mention the beautiful, golden color too? :toast:
