Ice & Raindrops

This, to me, is the most compelling shot I've done in a while. I, like many of you, am limited for time and distance that I can travel, and when I do have time, I "get what I get" as far as light and weather goes.

I found some interesting shapes in the thawing ice, and was working on those when it began to rain. Frustrated, I decided to get a bit wet, stay, and shoot. This is the result. I know it could probabaly use some sort of crop, may have a color cast (although this is an image I consider pretty subjective in that area, and I like how it's presented here), and would probably merit some time converting to B&W, but I just wanted to present it as is here as a personal triumph in persistence, in making do with what you have.

Thanks for looking, all comments appreciated.

Very nice, particularly the shape of the broken ice. I like the color.

A giant squid (less 2 legs) caught in the rain  The raindrops add a dimension to the image. I like the color cast also. Good for you on the persistence!!! I get too frustrated sometimes and hang it up!

Good for your Greg...... often overlooked but one of the most important parts of photography is our own personal gratification! I love the color and the rings from the rain as well as the cracked or thawing ice. :toast:

This is really nice Greg. The raindrops really make the image IMO; without them there would be no sense of scale. Thanks for sharing.

It looks like it's coming to get me. Very cool. There are a lot of things to like about it and I wouldn't remove the colorcast, it adds to the mood.

Very unique and well seen. I like the color cast. If it were mine, I might consider doing a mask with the gradient tool and doing a little adjustment to the upper area to even out the hotter area above, darkening it and making it a bit more even. It would be something fun to play with and see how the image changes. It is minor, though. Nice work.

I really dig this Greg! Very other-worldly! I wouldn't change a thing actually. The color lends to the trippy feeling here! Very well seen!

Greg,

A very contemplative image. I can stare at it for a long time. Well done. I revel in your victory!

I think you should crop it, remove the color cast and consider working with it in B&W

(had to say it !)

Actually, I reallyl dig it Greg and congrats on sticking with it - this was worth getting wet and a little cold over :toast:

I don't think calling this 'stunning' would be overdoing it Greg. I really love the concept, and you have pulled it off so well. Two years ago, I was wandering in the hills above my parents house, and I shot some shots of rocks in the snow. I started taking some very basic shots, then my eye caught a different type of shot, a different way of seeing for me. I look back at that day as sort of an awakening when I saw a different way, and I still remember that day of shooting. I hope this image works in a similar way for you.

Great shot.

I wouldn't change a darn thing. I'd print and frame it and hang it proudly in the living room. Glad you decided to stay and get a little wet.

Persistance does pay off, Greg. The circular patterns created by the falling rain impacting the water is the icing on the cake. :toast:

This is purely beautiful Greg. What a great intimate capture of a single moment. Well done! It's not how far you travel but how you see.

What a wonderful shot! I like it just as is, although B&W will probably be interesting. Sometimes the best shots come when you least expect them, and with a subject that you would never have thought would be interesting. The lines in the ice would have been interesting on their own, but the raindrops put it over the top. Great capture! :toast:
