Lake Isabelle Sunset

by Joseph Rossbach

Gallery: LandscapePosted March 20, 20064,773 views39 comments
F-100
17-35mm
Warm Polarizer
2 stop split nuetral density
fuji velvia

My wife and I spent a Sunday afternoon last August exploring the area above Lake Isabelle in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It rained for the majority of the day and the prospect of recording any sweet light seemed unlikely at best. We decided to stay anyway and were rewarded with a clearing storm and still conditions just as the storm began to break at sunset.

Wow what a great photo, perfect timing and light. I notice that you used both the polorizer and a split nuetral density filter, what was the exposure time ???

Cheers,

Joseph,

This is amazing - talk about the decisive moment! The colors are spectacular, the composition is perfect and the reflection is awesome. The snag in the water in the FG is a perfect anchor - my eyes just keep moving around the frame, finding yet another pleasing aspect of this picture.

A simply wonferful capture!

Wow, I saw Lake Isabelle, and I thought it said Lake Isabella which near where I live. Looked closer and realized no way...not my lake. Fantastic image! Love the wood, the reflection, and incredible sky. Exposure looks right on. As was said above, "stunning"!

Joseph,

A truly inspiring image. The heavenly quality of the light is very moving. My only nit are the very dark shadows in the mid ground along the edges of the lake, but probably understandable as aby product of Velvia.
