A backyard feeder shot - this Tufted Titmouse is making repeated fly-bys to survey the food I prepared for them on the ground.

1/2500 sec, f/4, iso 320
D2x, Nikkor 300mm f/4D AF-S

Thanks for looking & comments appreciated.

Beautiful!! The titmouse is perfect and the plants add a necessary element to the photos without taking away from it.

Just a friendly reminder (I tried to do this by email, but it bounced...). Only NPN members are eligible for weekly Editor's Picks and annual awards. You have until Saturday this week to rectify this situation if you choose. You never know.

That was a pretty big hint from Bob there   If I were you I would become a member asap. Apart from that this is a supurb flightshot. What I like especially is the dry plants in the front, gives a sense of direction. :toast: :toast:

Great capture, can you offer up some tips on how you do this. It looks like you strobes or something?

Thanks, Bob, Krijn, I hear ya, that's very flattering, I'll take care of it later this week, too much going on until Thursday. I did change the email address, though.

>>..can you offer up some tips on how you do this. It looks like you strobes or something?

Nothing that fancy, Robert. It's just an old fashioned use-your-fastest-shutter-speed trick. Of course I've been watching these guys going after their food for some time, so I knew their fly pattern well relative to the location of their food and where they take off  That's kind of important for manual pre-focusing. And the other thing is exposure, I, again manually, metered against a patch of well-lit greenery, that worked well. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thx all for commenting
